WHY IBD ?

My name is Joseph Lim Song Hok and I am the owner of Orifera, an international brand for nutraceutical and cosmeceutical. I am one of the first batch of  Engineering Doctorate student from Institute of Bioproduct Development (IBD). The reason I am writing to you is to share with each one of you how this course has benefitted me over the last couple of years. Today, I  am able to manage 4 factories in Selangor that manufactures natural herbaceutical and cosmeceutical products for the world. Apart from managing these factories, I have personally formulated more than 50 products that are sold in different brands all over the world. This is the fruit IBD.

When I first started my business, I knew nothing about the industry. IBD gave me the basic training and knowledge. On top of it, IBD can be done on a part time basis which only require me to spend my Saturday and Sundays. The professors at IBD are very special in the sense that were very professional, competent, helpful and knowledgeable in their field of expertise. My heartfelt thanks to my supervisor whom has enabled me to develop a novel technique for production planning pinch. With this technique, I am able to manage all the factories effectively.

IBD is designed to meet the industry student’s needs. The course is designed for working individual who desire lifelong education. It then gives the basic and necessary knowledge of the industry that you are working for. The student will then bring the industry problem that he is encountering in his workplace as the proposal for his dissertation. A supervisor will then be assigned to each individual to work on the problem. Upon completion, you will be proud to see that the solution to your problem is shared to the world through the publication of 2 papers in the international journals and a dissertation.

 What I have benefitted from this course?  Firstly, I have a firsthand knowledge of the industry that I am working in. Secondly, the knowledge with all the professors from the various universities has enabled me to improve my competency on product formulation. Before I took this course, I was struggling with one factory. Today, I am very confident of managing more than 4 factories. My report writing and presentation skills has improved tremendously and I find that this course has bring me to a next level of professionalism.
