Recently, Professor Dr. Zainuddin Abdul Manan, the Dean of UTM Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering has been appointed as the Chair of the IChemE’s Sargent Medals International Committee starting October 2016.
This medal was named after Roger Sargent, former president of IChemE and Courthaulds professor of chemical engineering at Imperial College, the medal was launched in 2014. Sargent, thought by many to be the founding father of Process Systems Engineering, has a huge influence both through his research and his many students. The medal is presented to one of more individuals who have made a significant recent contribution to research into computer-aided product and process engineering. The contribution could encompass, but need not be limited to, a concept that has promoted much interest, the solution of an unsolved problem, new methods/tools leading to innovative processes/products, or a significant advance of the state of the art within the area of process systems engineering.
Prof Zain has served as a panel member of IChemE Medals and Prizes International committee since the year 2014. IChemE medals and prizes recognise achievement and exceptional work across all aspects of chemical, process and biochemical engineering. They also provide an opportunity to recognise outstanding contributions made by individuals or groups to the development or wellbeing of IChemE.
