Biopolymer Research Group (BRG), Department of Bioprocess and Polymer Engineering introduced new technology which enables the farmers in Kampung Semaloi, Endau, Johor to convert the two agro-wastes namely, rice husk and rice straw into value-added fillers for polymer composites, paper-making and handicraft industries.

The ceremony and workshop, was launched by YB Datuk Haji Abd Latif bin Haji Bandi, chairman of Johor State Executive Council for Housing and Local Government cum ADUN Endau, were held on 11th February. The project also receives collaboration from National Blue Ocean Strategy 4 (NBOS4), University Communication Transformation Centre (UCTC), UTM and Centre for Community and Industry Network (CCIN), UTM.

The project received very positive response from the local paddy growers and is believed to be able to increase their income.
Congratulations to the project leader, Dr. Jamarosliza Jamaluddin, project members, PM Dr Wan Aizan Wan Abd Rahman, Dr. Rohah A Majid and Dr. Nadia Adrus, senior lecturers from the department for the impactful project!
