INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH COLLABORATION UTM-UNNES

JOHOR BAHRU, JUNE 2019 – Two Chemical Engineering students from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) will be carrying out research internship at the School of Chemical & Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The two students are Kuat Noviana and Chika Agnes Palupi who are students of research guidance Dr. Ratna Dewi Kusumaningtyas, S.T., M.T.
The research internship activities are part of the International Research Collaboration covering basic research (National Competitive) which is funded by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education DRPM. The research was proposed by Dr. Ratna Dewi Kusumaningtyas, S.T., M.T., and Haniif Prasetiawan, S.T., M.Eng and involving Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainul Akmar Zakaria from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Prof. Dr. G. Baskar from St. Joseph’s College of Engineering (India) as a cooperation partner.
The proposed study carries the title “Microwave Assisted Pyrolysis (MAP) for Biomass Waste for Making Green Fuel Bio-Hydrogen and Gas Fuel Storage Adsorbents”. Not only involves campus partners abroad, this research also involves collaboration with the the industry PT. Perkebunan Nusantara XI. Initial research has been carried out at the UNNES Chemical Engineering laboratory and further improvements will be made at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Then from the Indian side, they are providing facilities through the ASEAN-India Collaborative Research and Development research fund scheme.
This collaborative research activity is conducted from June 15, 2019 to July 14, 2019. While at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuat and Chika will focus their research on the characteristics of bio-char produced from coconut shell pyrolysis through Microwave Assisted Pyrolysis.
