FCEE-UTM will be holding the 9th Regional Conference on Chemical Engineering (RCChE 2016) in conjunction with Postgraduate International Symposium on Chemical & Energy Engineering (POISChE 2016) on 21st until 22nd of November 2016 at Menara Razak UTM Kuala Lumpur.

RCChE is an annual convention for members of ASEAN University Network/Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network (AUN/SEED-Net) to showcase current  research and technology developments in chemical engineering and related fields. The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in collaboration with the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) has been given the honour to host this year’s RCChE 2016 and has taken this opportunity to mobilise ASEAN researchers and academic communities to demonstrate our commitment towards sustainable development. In the effort to build capacity and inculcate research and innovation culture among the young generation,the RCChE 2016 will be held in conjunction with the Postgraduate International Symposium on Chemical and Energy Engineering (POISChE 2016).

This year’s conference has included speakers and experts from AUN/SEED-Net’s Japanese supporting universities, Malaysian universities, ASEAN as well as international institutions, industries, professional and government institutions, the 9th RCChE and the 1st POISChE are set to provide ample opportunities for participants to foster collaboration across disciplines and culture in the following chemical engineering and related-fields :

Hence, we would like to highlight the main events throughout the conference for those who are looking forward for this conference. Throughout the 2 days conference, there will be 4 plenary speakers that will be giving talks on their expertise which varies from process system to nanotechnology.

About the speaker

Plenary 1 : Prof Yoshiyuki Yamashita, Tokyo Agriculture University of Technology

Prof Dr. Yoshiyuki Yamashita is a professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), Japan. He serves as a Head of Process Systems Engineering Laboratory in Department of Chemical Engineering since 2007. He received Bachelar’s, Master’s and Doctor’s degree from Tohoku University, Japan. Prier to joining a faculty at TUAT, he was an associate professor at Tohoku University.
He has served on editor in chief, journal of chemical engineering of Japan from 2009 to 2011.

He chaired International Program Comittee at PSE Asia 2016, Tokyo. He is a chairman of 143rd University-Industry Cooperative Research Committee on Process Systems Engineering in Japan Society of Promotion of Science (JSPS). He received various awards including Young Investigator award from Society of Chemical Enginnering, Japan, Outstanding paper award, Journal of Chemical Engineering of Japan. His current research interests include Process Monitoring, Control and Cyber Infrastructure of process systems.

Plenary 2 : Mr. Nagayoshi SuzukiJFE Engineering Corporation, Japan

Mr. Nagayoshi Suzuki, a Japanese aged of 44, studied at Osaka University and graduated school of Engineering Science in Mechanical Science and Bioengineering. He joined JFE Engineering Corporation in 1998 and has worked in Environmental Solutions Sector in Engineering Department, Overseas Business Division. Over 18 years of Waste to Energy engineering experience in JFE providing implementation a project in various parts of Japan (Kanagawa Pref., Tottori Pref., Okinawa Pref., & Tochigi Pref.) and work on strategic planning of technology development in JFE Head Office. At the present he is currently assigned to planning and proposal of technology development of Waste to Energy Plant in South East Asia as a Deputy General Manager.

Plenary 3 : Prof. Dr. Jackie Y. Ying, Institute of Bio-Engineering and Nanotechnology, Singapore

Jackie Y. Ying received her B.E. and Ph.D. from The Cooper Union and Princeton University, respectively. She joined the faculty at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992, where she was Professor of Chemical Engineering until 2005. She has been the Founding Executive Director of the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore since 2003. For her research on nanostructured materials, Prof. Ying has been recognized with the American Ceramic Society Ross C. Purdy Award, David and Lucile Packard Fellowship, Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award, Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, American Chemical Society Faculty Fellowship Award in Solid-State Chemistry, Technology Review’s Inaugural TR100 Young Innovator Award, American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Allan P. Colburn Award, Singapore National Institute of Chemistry-BASF Award in Materials Chemistry, Wall Street Journal Asia’s Asian Innovation Silver Award, International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Jubilee Medal, Materials Research Society Fellowship, Royal Society of Chemistry Fellowship, Crown Prince Grand Prize in the Brunei Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Award, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering Fellowship, Academy of Sciences of Iran Medal of Honor, American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellowship, Singapore National Academy of Science Fellowship, and The Cooper Union Alumni Association Gano Dunn Award.

Prof. Ying was elected a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, and a member of the German National Academy of Sciences, Leopoldina. She was named one of the “One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era” by AIChE in its Centennial Celebration. She was selected by The Muslim 500 in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 to be one of the world’s 500 most influential Muslims. She was selected as an Inaugural Inductee for the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame in 2014. She was the inaugural winner of the Mustafa Prize “Top Scientific Achievement Award” in 2015 for her research in bio-nanotechnology. The laureate of this science and technology award receives a certificate, an engraved medal and US$500,000 in prize money. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Nano Today, which has an impact factor of 13.157.

Plenary 4 :  Prof. Dr. Jiri Jaromir Klemes , Centre for Process Systems Engineering & Sustainability, Hungary

A Leading Researcher of Centre for Process System Engineering and Sustainability (PSES), Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Budapest, Hungary and Emeritus Professor at Faculty of Infornation Technology, University of Pannonia, Veszprém, Hungary. Previously the Project Director, Senior Project Officer and Hon Reader at Department of Process Integration at UMIST, The University of Manchester and the University of Edinburgh. In 2007 awarded by the EC with Marie Curies Chair of Excellence (EXC). He has comprehensive industrial experience in Process Integration, Computer Aided Design methods and PSE tools for environmental protection, sustainability and greenhouse gases footprints reduction. Many successful industrial applications. Track record of managing and coordinating 91 major EC, NATO and UK Know-How projects. Research funding attracted over 21 M€. The long term Head and Founder of the Centre for Process Integration and Intensification – CPI2. A Distinguished Visiting Professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia; University Technology Petronas, Malaysia; Xi’an Jiaotong University: South China University of Technology, Guangzhou: Tianjin University in China: University of Maribor, Slovenia; Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic and of the Russian Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology, Moscow. Doctor Honoris Causa of Kharkiv National University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” in Ukraine, the University of Maribor in Slovenia, University POLITEHNICA Bucharest, Romania.

Chairperson of CAPE Working Party of European Federation of Chemical Engineering, a member of WP on Process Intensification and of the EFCE Sustainability platform. The founder and President for 20 years of PRES (Process Integration for Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction) conferences. Vice-Chair of SDEWES for Central and Easter Europe. He authored over 400 papers recorded in SCOPUS and Web of Science, h-index reaching 40, nmuber of citations over 6,000. He authored a number of books published by McGraw-Hill; Woodhead Cambridge; Elsevier; Ashgate Publishing Cambridge; Springer; WILEY-VCH; Taylor & Francis). Among his awards are “Honorary Doctor of Engineering Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru”, “Honorary Membership of Czech Society of Chemical Engineering“, “European federation of Chemical Engineering – EFCE Life-Time Achievements Award” and “Pro Universitaire Pannonica” Gold Medal.

RCChE 2016 are sure compacted with experts from different fields of chemical engineering and thus making it the center of chemical engineering experts gathering from all over ASEAN.
