From nominations submitted, UTM has a step further success after UTM-Petronas Research Sdn Bhd received recognition when the three finalists Best Academia–Industry Collaboration Award 2016 in conjunction with Malaysia’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers Awards Night 2016 on 4 November 2016 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It is an honor received by UTM for Best Academia-Industry Collaboration Award as a result of the hard work and cooperation between the UTM especially Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC) with Petronas Research Sdn Bhd. Cooperation between the two parties is related to the use of membrane technology in the development of carbon dioxide separation system.
Product development and membrane separation system is believed to be able to increase revenue to the state and energy savings in the processing of oil and gas. Among the advantages of the use of the selection process, membrane technology is because it is more efficient, energy saving and easy to operate. Carbon dioxide is an acidic gas that needs to be removed from the natural gas stream as it will cause erosion and destruction of the pipe. The presence of carbon dioxide in the natural gas will also reduce the quality and heating. Therefore, the removal of acid gas from streams is important to get a better quality of natural gas. As a result of this innovation is that it has improved the efficiency and durability of the gas separation membrane, made using a gas separation membrane technology commercially competitive with the existing separation technologies. In addition, this cooperation project has also generated the development of human capital to the country with the involvement of local university lecturers 4, the 4 students and 2 PhD students Master and 4 technical staff who have the skill of making membrane. The project has also successfully produced 3 Patent Malaysia besides contributing in international journals of high impact publications.
This cooperation will continue in the future in an effort to mobilize expertise in generating innovative ideas and technology products for the community and the development of human resources as an important asset for the country.
