MASTER OF PETROLEUM ENGINEERING
Programme Specification
The master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering is designed to address the need for skilled Petroleum Engineering professionals by integrating the basic and advanced knowledge of petroleum engineering ranging from upstream to downstream. The programme targets both fresh graduates and experienced candidates and aims to provide quality post-graduate education to enhance the career opportunity and development of candidates.
The programme is offered on a full-time basis at the UTM campus in Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur and offered to any candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, and Engineering. Graduates from other disciplines with an experience of more than 5 years in the oil and gas industry are encouraged and welcomed to apply. The minimum study duration is 1.5 years (3 semesters) and the maximum is 4 years (8 semesters).

The Master of Petroleum Engineering programme is offered on a full-time basis and based on 12- months academic calendar. The program is conducted on both weekdays and weekends class.

The general entry requirement for a Master’s Degree
1. | A Bachelor’s Degree with good honors from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or |
2. | A qualification equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and experience in the relevant field recognised by the Senate. |
General entry requirements for the Master of Petroleum Engineering programme:
1. | Graduated with Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering with a minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00 or equivalent. |
2. | Graduated with Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/ Science/ Technology with a minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00 from any institution of higher learning recognised by the UTM Senate. |
3. | Minimum 5 years of experience if graduated below the minimum CGPA. |
English requirements:
1. | International candidates are required to have a minimum English qualification as follows: |

2. | If the candidate do not comply with any of the requirements, candidates are required to attend Intensive English Programme (IEP) offered by the UTM Language Academy and pass the IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0. |
APEL requirements:
Candidates without any degree but with relevant and equivalent industry experience can apply to this program under Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) T7
