Process control laboratory course is a compulsory laboratory course for FChE final year students. This lab course exposes students to areas of instrumentation and process control systems in the chemical engineering. The aim is to teach the students about how (1) to control the specific control variables through the use of simple Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller and (2) to monitor and analyze the dynamic behavior of process varibales in chemical processes. Students will experience how to perform open loop and closed loop tuning method for specific processes. Also included is the application of PLC program to plan and control a simple process – designed by the students. Students will gain hands-on experience in process control through series of experiments that employ pilot-scale chemical processes unit operations.
