Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering was established on 1st October 2015 comprising of four departments; Department of Petroleum Engineering and Department of Renewable Energy Engineering. The Petroleum Engineering Department was established in 1975 and at that time it was under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Campus. In the early 1980’s, the Department was transferred to a new faculty called Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering which was later moved to UTM main campus in Skudai. Department of Gas Engineering was established in 1996 under the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering. In 2010, the Petroleum Engineering Department combined with the Gas Engineering Department to form the Faculty of Petroleum and Renewable Energy Engineering and at the same time the Department of Renewable Energy Engineering was established to replace the Gas Engineering Department. The faculty is led by a Dean and assisted by two Deputy Deans, two Head of Departments, IT Manager and two Assistant Registrars. In addition, Head of Post Graduate Department oversees the post graduate programs at the faculty. Currently the faculty is offering three bachelor of engineering programs namely Bachelor of Engineering (Petroleum), Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical-Gas) and Bachelor of Engineering (Nuclear).
